Position Summary
The Golf Course Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and preventative service of golf course equipment and vehicles to ensure safe, reliable operation. This position works closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and maintenance staff to minimize equipment downtime and maintain an efficient operation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform preventative maintenance on all golf course equipment, including mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, sprayers, and small engines.
Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and fuel system issues and complete repairs in a timely manner.
Sharpen, grind, and adjust reels and bedknives to ensure proper cutting quality.
Change engine oil, hydraulic fluids, filters, belts, bearings, and other wear items according to maintenance schedules.
Maintain accurate service records and preventative maintenance logs for all equipment.
Inspect equipment daily for safety and operational readiness.
Assist with equipment setup and adjustments for changing mowing heights and seasonal maintenance.
Order, organize, and maintain an inventory of parts, lubricants, and shop supplies.
Keep the maintenance shop clean, organized, and in compliance with safety standards.
Perform minor welding and fabrication repairs as needed.
Repair tires, batteries, and electrical components.
Assist with golf course maintenance duties, including mowing, course setup, or other assignments when equipment repairs are caught up or staffing needs require.
Operate maintenance equipment safely and follow all OSHA and departmental safety procedures.
Communicate equipment issues and repair priorities with the Superintendent and maintenance staff.
Physical Requirements
Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Occasionally lift heavier items with assistance or appropriate equipment.
Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Stand, kneel, bend, crawl, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
Must possess manual dexterity to safely operate hand and power tools.
Work Schedule
Full-time position with a typical 40+ hour work week.
Must be available for early morning shifts.
Required to work every other weekend during the golf season.
Overtime may be required during peak maintenance periods or emergencies.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience repairing small engines, diesel and gasoline equipment, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems.
Knowledge of reel mower setup, grinding, and adjustments preferred.
Ability to read service manuals and troubleshoot mechanical issues.
Valid driver's license required.
Welding and fabrication experience is a plus.
Ability to work independently while maintaining a high level of organization and attention to detail.
